Lead me in thy truth, and teach me: for thou art the God of
my salvation; on thee do I wait all the day. Psa 25:5
First Christian Academy offers a challenging and diverse college preparatory curriculum in a private school setting that is aligned with state and national standards. FCA teaches our students using the A.C.E. (Accelerated Christian Education) curriculum.
Overview
- The dates and schedule of the academic year is in compliance with the Pasadena school district except for staff work days that are required for accreditation. A school calendar is given out at Parent Orientation. Any updates are given out throughout the school year.
- The program includes thirty-six weeks of instruction, with holidays at Thanksgiving, Christmas, and in the spring and fall.
- Parents receive reports regarding their student’s progress four times a year.
- Formal parent conferences are held four times per year.
Assessment
- Our students take the Standford Achievement Test each year, which is published by the Educational Records Bureau. This is a nationally-normed, standardized test that we use to determine the best way to assist our students.
- Sophomores and juniors take the PSAT exam, which allows them to practice the skills needed to be successful at taking the SAT exam in their junior and senior years.
- All students take the SAT exam, and we encourage them to take it more than one time.
Teachers and Classroom Ratio
FCA believes teachers need to teach and train the children placed in their care. In order to have such a standard—FCA has a responsibility to the teachers to not over fill their classes. FCA promises to maintain a minimum of 20% under public or other private schools or pre school.
Our largest class is in the high school department. The student to teacher ratio is no more than 14 to 1.
Lead teachers in PK3-PK4 hold a minimum of an Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education. Lead teachers in the Kindergarten thru High School hold a Bachelors degree in the major fields such as Education, Business, Sociology, Art, Music and or Communications.
